Publications play a central role when aiming for scientific progress. They are a means to structure the scientific process and, to some extent, also the organization of the scientific community in a certain field. Jan Recker was part of a panel at the BPM2020 conference dedicated to voicing reflections on the publishing culture in the BPM community. That includes the role of various types of publication outlets, from workshops to journals, as well as their specificity or generality. Moreover, we intend to discuss the role of publications in the assessment of research quality, their implications for scientific careers, and potential related pitfalls. The panel videos are available here.
