Profile

Dr. Katharina Drechsler is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Professorship for Information Systems (Prof. Dr. Stefan Seidel) since February 2023. Previously, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Liechtenstein in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. Katharina received her doctoral degree in Information Systems from the University of Bamberg with summa cum laude. She graduated with a master’s degree in Information Systems from the University of Frankfurt and holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Munich. She spent semesters abroad at the University of Warwick in Coventry and Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Katharina was awarded multiple awards and scholarships during her studies.

Katharina’s research focuses on the dynamics and outcomes of developing and using digital technology, such as blockchain, the industrial internet of things, and artificial intelligence. She is especially passionate about exploring the role of employees, managers, entrepreneurs, and artists in promoting and developing digital technologies for innovation. Her research combines quantitative, qualitative and design science research methods and includes interdisciplinary work that combines questions in Information Systmes with issues in Finance and Innovation Management. Her work has been published in leading journals, such as the Journal of Information Technology, Information and Management, Communications of the AIS, International Journal of Innovation Management, and internationally renowned conferences, such as the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). Her paper together with Abena Asante and Leona Chandra Kruse won best short paper at the Special Interest Group on Blockchain Innovations and Technologies (SIGBIT) Workshops 2023 in Hyderabad (India) in December 2023.

She serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for leading journals, such as the European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology, MIS Quarterly, Executive, and Journal of Product Innovation Management and Business & Information Systems Engineering. In 2022 Katharina received a best reviewer award at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). She also serves as the track chair at the International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik 2024 and as associate editor at ECIS and ICIS 2024.
