The study "Configuring Alliance Portfolios for Digital Innovation" by Theresa Bockelmann, Karl Werder, Jan Recker, Julian Lehmann and David Bendig has been published in the Journal of Strategic Information Systems.

The study finds that:

• Alliances—that is, networks of partnering firms—are an effective means for firms to create digital innovations.
• Volume and quality of digital innovations can be enhanced through alliance partnerships.
• Alliances for digital innovation require a different configuration than alliances for non-digital innovation.
• Configuration of alliance portfolios matters in terms of size, degree of exploration, internationality and competition.
